  • 2010 February 28 – End of Vancouver Winter Olympics

2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics2010 Olympics Ted Ligety - Silver Springs Sports HeroWe have complete confidence in our hometown Winter Olympic Ski Hero, Ted Ligety.  Ted was raised in our Silver Springs Community and lives here when he isn’t competing. We are following Ted’s terrific and promising skiing career……..Vancouver February 12 to 28, 2010……Winter Olympics- Canada won 14 gold medals, The U.S.A. won more medals than any other nation ever has at a Winter Olympics,  37 record medal total.  Assign three points for gold, two for silver and one for bronze, and the U.S. also won, edging Germany by seven points and Canada by nine. Go with a 5-3-1 system that counts the gold more heavily, and the bronze less so, and the U.S. still leads, this time with Canada and Germany tied for second. (The U.S. led all nations in both silvers and bronzes.) The rapid rise in number of events makes it easier to record big totals. Consider that the U.S. won 14.3% of all medals this year, 13.5% of points in the 3-2-1 system and 13.3% of points in the 5-3-1 system, while Canada won 16.3% of all golds. Either of these point systems is arbitrary, but then so is the medal system itself.

Did anyone else notice that Canada’s Charles Hamelin pushed Korea’s Sung Il-Bach, causing him to crash, while everyone else was watching what Apolo Ohno was doing at the back of the pack.  The foul that won gold.  Most online sites have removed the video of the 500 meter short track speed skating gold medal race.  One particular angle catches this push very clearly.
