1917-1982 Miner’s Hospital -and End of Book Brigade

The Murphy Archer family have been long-time supporters of library services in Summit County.
The Murphys moved to Park City on September 1, 1982 and joined the Library Book Brigade on September 6, 1982. Seventy-eight years after the Miners Hospital first opened its doors to injured miners, the building was rededicated as the Park City Library on September 4, 1982. The “Happy Booker Book Brigade,” a human chain of approximately 750 people, passed approximately 5,000 volumes three-quarters of a mile from the former Library location at 518 Main Street to the new Library at the Miners Hospital at 1354 Park Avenue. The Miner’s Hospital served as the City Library for eleven years, until 1993. The building, now the Miners Hospital Community Center, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Park City Library was again moved in 1993 to the renovated Carl Winters High School at 1255 Park Avenue. To this day the Murphy Archers continue to support local library activities.
